If We Change Our Perception. 2006

Some women are brunettes, some are blondes, and some have to live without hair. If we change our often negative perception of women who live with alopecia (hair loss) their lives will change.

Violaine is a courageous young woman. She chose to speak about her difference in order to help change a negative perception of the society towards women who suffer from alopecia. Violaine stood up to let other women suffering from the same medical condition know that they are not alone.

Today in France, tens of thousands of women suffer from alopecia. The only symptom of this auto-immune disease (which touches men as well) is a hair loss. While there's no physical pain, there's a strong psychological suffering.

Hair is considered to be a symbol of good health, beauty and sensuality. Women with alopecia often feel ugly, deprived of their femininity. A woman with alopecia is still unconsciously associated with a negative image.

If women with alopecia could freely live without hiding themselves under wigs, if the perception of the society could rid of mocking or pity all women living with alopecia would find their dignity and feel free.
