A friend of mine bought at an auction and lent me an authentic summer dress from the personal wardrobe of Marilyn Monroe. The dress with a strong evocative power became an essential element of my artistic project.
With the dress folded in my photographer’s backpack I went to meet men and women of all ages and all social categories at their homes and work places to record their stories. I invited my models to reflect on what Marilyn Monroe represented for them while I took their photos. The range of portraits spans from that of Douglas Kirkland, a photographer who photographed Monroe in 1961, John Landis, a movie director, Frederic Mitterrand, France’s Minister of Culture, or those of anonymous fans.
"Marilyn and I" is an exploration of the dimensions of a modern myth.
